According to screenshots shared by users on Twitter and Reddit, YouTube may restrict 4K video viewing to only subscribers to YouTube Premium.
Some users on Reddit (1,2) and Twitter have recently noticed that on iOS, and presumably across other platforms as well, YouTube now states that in order to watch videos in 4K, the user must be a paying YouTube Premium subscriber. The 4K quality option is not visible to all users due to YouTube’s paywall, and it’s unclear if YouTube intends to continue with this.
