According to screenshots shared by users on Twitter and Reddit, YouTube may restrict 4K video viewing to only subscribers to YouTube Premium.

Some users on Reddit (1,2) and Twitter have recently noticed that on iOS, and presumably across other platforms as well, YouTube now states that in order to watch videos in 4K, the user must be a paying YouTube Premium subscriber.
