Design and Display

Vivo V17 comes with a very pleasant design. The Indian version of Vivo V17 offers a punch-hole display and a L-Shaped camera set-up placed under a rectangular camera module on the back. The body material is made up of fine quality plastic, it offers a very ergonomic design with curved edges which makes it comfortable to hold. Device is 6.44-inch large and people with small hands may feel a bit difficult to use it with a single hand. Volume rocker and power button is placed on the right side while left side occupies 2+1 tray. Earpiece is placed at the top while there is a speaker grille, USB Type-C port, mic and 3.5mm audio jack placed at the bottom.

In terms of Display, Vivo V17 sports a large 6.44-inch E3 Super AMOLED display. The display offers full HD+ (2,400 x 1,080) resolution, 84.9% screen-to-body ratio, 20:9 ratio and 409 ppi density. The Display is very much sharp and vibrant. Color are well saturated and it doesn’t put much strain in the eyes. The phone does comes with Widevine L1 certification which means you can stream full HD resolution display on platforms like Netflix and Amazon prime videos. The sunlight legibility is really good, you can use this device under sunlight without any issues.

Camera

Vivo V17 comes with quad camera set-up at the back which is one of the main USP of the device. The rear cameras are placed inside a rectangular box in L-Shape. Three Camera sensors are placed vertically while the fourth camera sensor is placed below the LED flash. The quad camera consists of 48 MP primary sensor having wide-angle lens, f/1.8 aperture and PDAF. The secondary camera is an 8MP sensor with ultra-wide-angle lens and f/2.2 aperture. Module does comes with 2 MP tertiary  dedicated macro sensor while the fourth in the list is a 2 MP depth sensor.
Camera does comes with multiple features like Super night mode, ultra stable video, portrait mode, super macro mode, super night selfie, AI scene recognition and AI HDR which makes photography and recording videos even more exciting.
Camera performs very well under good lighting conditions, the images comes out to be very much detailed with all natural color reserved. You will get nice quality images with bokeh effect by using the portrait mode in good lighting conditions but don’t expect same quality images in low light conditions.
Wide-angle lens works very well when it comes to capture a wide area but it also works at it’s best in good lighting conditions. When it comes to clicking pictures in low light conditions, super night mode does a fair job as it can drastically reduce noise levels and capture brighter photos.
If we talk about the front camera, 32MP sensor manages to capture nice quality images. We did loved the quality of selfies taken during daylight. Low light selfies looks fine all thanks to super night selfie mode but we assume it to be better.

Performance and Software

In terms of Performance, The Vivo V17 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC paired along with Adreno 612 GPU and 8GB of RAM. We do really feel phone does comes with a very dated processor which is one of the downside. It would have been better to come with at least Snapdragon 712 SoC or above. Device can handle all day to day tasks with much of an issue, we didn’t any hiccups or lags while using it for a long time. Phone can easily run games like PUBG or Asphalt, gaming experience was very fluid and no slowdown or shutter experience every felt.

Vivo V17 boots on Funtouch OS 9.2 based on Android 9.0 (pie) operating system. The UI is quite colorful and tricky at times. The UI is very much resembles to that of IOS, at times you feel you are using an iPhone smartphone. You can swipe up from bottom to control brightness, volume level and access shortcuts while you can swipe down from the top for notification panel.

Funtouch OS comes with some preloaded apps like PhonePe, Tomato, Opera, Flipkart, Gaana and Dailyhunt. You can uninstall all of the apps if you want. The in-display scanner sensor performs very well and it’s very much accurate and fast. The face unlock does it’s job very well even in low light conditions. The speaker grille at the bottom is quite loud and produces nice quality audio which is very impressive.

Battery Life

Vivo V17 is powered by a large 4500mAh battery. The battery provides more than enough juices for a day use with a very heavy usage. The phone supports 18W Dual-Engine fast charging which can charge the device from 0 to 100 percent in about 80-90 minutes.

Verdict

Vivo V17 comes with a premium looking design and a large display with E3 Super AMOLED display, It comes with Nice camera set-up at the back and front which works great. The very main concern is the dated processor which could have been better. The price for the device is set at very competitive price  Rs. 22,990 from the ones like Redmi K20 which comes with powerful Snapdragon 730 chipset along with attractive glass body design.
