Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro Design and Display

If we talk about the looks or design of the phone, Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro comes with an ergonomic design which looks very pleasing to eyes. It comes with a glass sandwich design and there is a two color combination at the back like we get on Pixel mobiles. Phone comes with a thickness of 8.8mm which is ok considering the fact that it comes with glass body design. Phone feels slightly heavy in hands. There is side mounted fingerprint scanner and it is easily reachable. Phone does comes with a Corning gorilla glass 5 protection at the back and  front which can surely save the device from accidental drops. There is p2i water-repellent coating, which is said to make it splash-proof. Infrared emitter is placed at the top like on all Redmi mobiles.

There is a quad camera module at the back and it is placed at the top center. Since the phone comes with glass body at the back it is very much attracted to smudges or fingerprint marks. If we talk about the front, we get punch-hole display which looks very stunning, the bezels are very thin and has a small chin at the bottom. The ports at the bottom includes single speaker, mic, 3.5mm audio jack and USB Type-C port.

On the left side there is a triple card slot which means you can insert two SIM cards or two SIM cards and a memory card on this smartphone. All we can say is design is impressive and you will love it

Now if we talk about display it is one of the highlight of the smartphone, phone comes with 6.5-inch FHD+ ISP LCD display with a cutout for the selfie camera which looks absolutely gorgeous. Though it comes with an IPS LCD panel still the colors looks very punchy and well saturated. You will surely love to watch movies on this smartphones. Viewing angels are very good and there is no issue faced while using the phone under direct sun light.

Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro Performance

Performance on Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro will not let you down. Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC on Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro is well capable of performing day to day tasks without any hassle. Multitasking worked well, and apps in general were quick to load.

If we talk about PUBG gaming on Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro, it does enables you to play in the HD high mode by default and the game-play was very fluid, we didn’t noticed any lags or frame drops while playing the game. No heat issues were every felt after a heavy game-play of around 2 hours.  All we can say is if you are a regular gamer or loves heavy gaming you won’t love this smartphone. Xiaomi Poco M2 pro does comes with Game Turbo which is a handy utility that gives you shortcuts for screen recording, etc, while playing games. 60Hz display refresh rate on Xiaomi Poco M2 pro is still a downside and we strongly feel it should have come up with atleast 90Hz like as we get on Realme 6 for even more better gaming experience.

Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro boots on MIUI Poco launcher which is based on Android 10, The UI is slightly snappy and you might struggle a bit if you are using MIUI for the very first time. There are ample features here to customize and tweak the interface exactly to your liking. MIUI 11 does comes with some pre-installed Chinese Apps like Mi Music, Mi Video, Mi Browser, etc, and most of them can’t be uninstalled while pre-installed third party apps like Helo, Facebook, and some basic games can be uninstalled easily. Phone does not comes with Ad-free MIUI experience which is very impressive though notification spam from built-in apps can really annoy you. You need to tweak around to get hold of all the UI features, once you understand it you might love the UI.

Device does comes with face unlock which works perfectly well. There is also a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on this device, the response time is very quick and accurate. The sound from the single Speaker at the bottom is not great. You can enable software enhancements for audio if you use wired headphones, but there’s nothing to boost the volume of the speaker.

Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro Battery

Battery is one of the main USP of this smartphone, Phone comes with massive 5000mAh battery which can easily survive for a day and a half with moderate usage and a day with a heavy usage. It does comes with 33W fast battery charging which takes around 60-70 minutes to charge the mobile completely.

Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro Camera

If we talk about camera, Xiaomi Poco M2 pro comes with quad camera set-up at the back which includes 48MP Samsung GM2 primary camera sensor. The secondary camera comes with 8 MP ultra-wide angle sensor, tertiary camera is a 5 MP macro and fourth snapper is a 2 MP depth sensor. The dynamic range of the back camera is quite impressive, it is well capable of capturing enough lights to take quality images. Camera on Xiaomi Poco M2 pro opts for a slightly saturated tone instead of boosting shadows or over-exposing. Portrait from the rear camera comes to be very refined and detailed, it surely has excellent edge detection capability. Rear camera does tries to retain the natural colors in good lighting conditions. The 5 MP macro sensor does a fair job at taking close up shots though we still feel there is room for improvement. The night camera experience is still an issue, the main and wide-angle cameras struggled with exposure and details. Colors seems to be washed out when we zoom in the photos. Photos taken in in-door lighting conditions looks to be very underexposed though camera tries it’s bets to reduce the noise.

If we talk about Video, you can record 4K, full HD+ and slow videos, if you love to record it’s better to record at 1080p as it camera provides stabilisation and colors had a more natural tone. Video recorded at night seems to be underexposed and grainy.

There is a 16 MP snapper at the front which can take very nice quality selfies in good lighting conditions but it also struggles in low light conditions. It does comes with night mode for selfie but we didn’t find it much workable.

Our Verdict

Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro looks superb and comes with a gorilla glass 5 body material. Display looks impressive and very punchy. Phone can really survive for a long time even with heavy usage. It disappoints in terms of performance, during heavy gaming and heavy multitasking. Though there is improvement in the camera department still night camera experience is not that great. All we can say is if night photography is not your priority you can go for this smartphone.
